Pinky has been a member of CBKC for 34 years and is currently serving her second consecutive term as president. She has served on many committees over the years.
A Corn Belt Kennel Club dog show was the first dog show Pinky ever attended and she was hooked from the tender age of 4 years old. Having always loved dogs, this is not a big surprise. She has been in attendance; as a spectator, exhibitor, and/or member at every show since then, with the exception of one. That one was when she was in Germany where she purchased her first show dog.
"It was the September, 1969, Corn Belt Kennel Club show that I saw my first Shih Tzu. That was the day AKC recognized the Shih Tzu for points toward the title of Champion. The dog that won Best In Show that day was the grandfather of my first Shih Tzu---and I did not know that until coming back to the States. I just knew that I fell in love with the breed and wanted to show and breed Shih Tzu. I had earlier gone up to the man showing that dog and asked what breed it was. He very kindly explained to me about the newly recognized breed and is a friend of mine and AKC judge, now.
You never know what you might discover, so if you are a dog lover, come out to a dog show---it could be the start of a grand love affair!"
Karen's Conformation experience has been limited to a single dog, several years ago. She was actively involved in obedience classes for many years and her interest in the sport of Dogs has remained constant. She is currently in the 2nd year of her 3rd stint as the Club Secretary.
Over the years she has actively participated in various committees including Obedience, Trophies, Match, Responsible Dog Owners Day, Cluster, and others. One interesting tidbit about Karen -- She has been a member through 3 different venues for our Show: ISU Horton Fieldhouse, McLean County Fairgrounds and Interstate Center. Karen has been a valued member of the Cornbelt Kennel Club since 1984.
Board of Directors
Lee has been a member of Corn Belt Kennel Club for three years now, and is a proud owner or Bulldogs. He helps to whelp, raise, and show bulldogs. Lee is currently serving on the Board of Directors and Chairing the Finance Committee.
Karan Kilgus has served as the CBKC's delegate to the American Kennel Club since 2003. She is also our current newsletter editor.
Karan has been exhibiting and breeding the Bulldog for nearly 30 years and is an American Kennel Club judge of several breeds. She has served on the CBKC Board of Directors as well as having served as an officer of the Club. She also has served on the Board and as an officer for Bulldog specialty clubs and is a Bulldog Club of America councilor and news editor.
As the American Kennel Club is a "club of clubs", the delegate's position is to bring new and up-for-vote agendas to the Corn Belt Kennel Club, to keep members apprised of nuances and changes in the sport of dogs, and to relay the Club's opinions and votes to the AKC.
